What Skiers Say About Flaine

Flaine attracts predominantly families and intermediate skiers, with many reviewers praising its proximity to Geneva airport (typically 90 minutes) and reliable snow conditions due to its north-facing bowl at altitude. Users consistently mention wide, well-groomed pistes suitable for beginners and intermediates, efficient lift systems with minimal queuing, and good ski schools (particularly ESF). The resort's brutalist architecture divides opinion but is generally accepted as functional rather than picturesque. Reviewers frequently note limited nightlife and après-ski options, describing the atmosphere as quiet and family-oriented. Several users highlight good value compared to other French resorts, though some mention crowded runs during school holidays and flat sections that challenge snowboarders.

Very happy with the resort and the apartment that we stayed at. We were in a 6 bedroom apartment at Résidence premium
Les Terrasses d'Hélios. We were very happy with the apartment only done side was that it was end of season so there was not many restaurants or shops open across the full resort.

We did find that some of the restruant workers were slightly rude and not very helpful.

Excellent base for the grand massif with ski in ski out accommodation and plenty of lifts and close proximity to Geneva airport. Being at over 1800m meant the snow quality was great and the pistes were well groomed every morning. I stayed at MGM Alhena which was great and couldn’t be closer to the slopes. I’d say it’s more of a family resort with apres being fairly limited but still a good selection of restaurants and bars.

Had a great time in Flaine over the Easter weekend. Snow was a bit slushy in the afternoons given how warm and late in the season it was but still had a great time in the mornings. Accommodation was easy and close to the slopes (100m) and variety of the blue and easy red runs were great for our level

Great week in Flaine, stayed in basic accomodation but very close to the slopes. Had the best of the weather, warm to start the week, then dumped 70cm of snow!

5th time in Flaine, but 1st with the family. Great resort for a bit of everything, with easy links to the Grand Massif as long as its not windy!

Beginners areas are all really close to the resort centre, and there are some fun reds and blues off just one of the chairlifts, and more if you keep higher. Lifts are quick, and we rarely had to queue.

The 'town' (Forum) has some great eateries, covering everything from fondues to burgers, and if the suns out theres plenty of seating in front of the sledding area for the kids.

Flaines brutalist concrete buildings were designed to 'hide' against the cliffs, and its not 'chocolate box' pretty, but accept it for what it is and you'll find a high, family friendly resort close to Geneva that ticks all the boxes for most people.

Free shuttle buses to the town centre if you are out of town. Brilliant runs with options for those more advanced and beginners, something to suit everyone. Lots of ski in /out accommodation options. Handy transfer from Geneva. No lift queues.

Great resort, with good bars and restaurants
. Been two years running. Snow always good and slopes well kept. It isn’t typical French alps style hotels and lodges a bit concrete jungle, but very functional. Ski schools are good and has other pursuits to partake in.

Not enough green/ easy blue runs for beginners. Great blue/red runs. Many Gondolas, chair lifts etc to explore the area for more experienced skiers.

Loved the Grand Massif ski resort, amazing wide cruisey slopes, great for the whole family/all ages. Had great snow conditions, weather and the resort was pretty quiet, so no queues and quite slopes etc.
Bit disappointed with the lack of mountain restaurants and pretty much no apres ski on the mountain which was a shame, especially for my age group (30’s).

Lovely place for beginners. A couple of free lifts so no lift passes needed for a day or 2. ESF ski school highly recommended for adults and kids alike. Apres scene not the best but with kids that suited us. Architecture interesting and great snow ⛄️

We stayed in Morillon in the Grand Massif ski area. It was a quiet village just below the Flaine area. The slopes were nice but the town is quiet. Not the biggest ski area I’ve visited but nice for a cheap weekend away

Very good place to stay and ski, I recommend morning skiiing as by 3 the runs get a bit bumpy.
A tip if staying in Morrillion there is one lift that gets your from flaine back over the mountain to Morrillion side. Closes at 4:30

Flaine is great for beginners and green and blue routes are available almost everywhere there are also some thrilling red runs and a snowboard cross route. We didn’t get to the blacks because we had the children. Food establishments of an evening are lovely also bars and a club we could hear in the distance sounded fun.
